“The glory of Easter is the heart of the Christian gospel. It is the centre of the Church’s faith and worship.” (BAS p. 296)
This is the week that we follow, “in real time”, the story of Jesus and his passion for us and for the whole world.
The story is so meaningful for us because it is a personal and communal matter of life and death. The story is life. Jesus is life. And this is good news for the whole cosmos. It has been revealed that everything within the realm of God has been loved and finally reconciled in and through the One we follow as the Christ.
This matters when the world is suffering deeply, as it is now, in every place where there is no peace. Many are enduring times of great testing. We pray for them and we pray for a just and lasting peace.
It may be that wishing one another a simple ‘Happy Easter’ won’t feel quite appropriate to the times we are suffering. But wishing someone a Happy Holy Week and Easter, is to both to cry out “Hosanna!” (save us/thank you!) and to proclaim with confidence, “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed, hallelujah!”
May God go every step with you through this week which is the heart of our memory and our hope.
