Are You A Little Lonely?

Do you have a spare room? Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:2) The refugee committee has several single people who desperately need sponsors before they can come to Canada.

We are looking for people who are:

Willing to share their home with a stranger for one or two years.

  • Open to welcoming somebody from a totally different culture.

  • Patient enough to communicate with somebody who initially will speak little or no English.

Example: Elaine is 18, all alone and very unhappy. She speaks English because her father taught English at a secondary school. So many bad things have happened in her short life and she needs a safe future. (Not her real name or photo.)

What you will get:

  • The chance to bring somebody in a desperate situation to safety.

  • A companion who will speak very little or no English when they arrive, but who desperately wants to learn it.

  • Somebody you can help by just talking to them.

  • A new understanding of how lucky and how blessed you are to live in Canada.

  • An insight into a new and different culture.

  • Support from the diocesan refugee committee.

  • The chance to change somebody’s life.

    What you will not get:

    • Rich financially (but you will be rewarded beyond belief by what a difference you can make in a person’s life).

    • Domestic help. (Your role is to encourage the person to go to school, learn English, get a job and become independent)

    • Somebody who expects you to cook and do laundry for them. (They will receive an allowance to buy food and incidentals)
  •

If you think you might be interested in helping a single refugee start a new life in Canada please contact the Refugee Committee through Huron Church House (1-800-919-1115). We would love to talk to you.
