a) Continuing Education Plan - General Synod Canon XII
Provides clergy and Synod staff $600, for continuing education. In addition, there is a bonus for use of 5% effective January 1, 2004. NOTE: a limitation has been placed on the amount of benefit for computer hardware/software. The limit is $1,000 once every three years
Cost: Employer contributes $ 500.00 per year
Employee contributes $ 100.00 per year
b) Dental Plan
Expenses for dental services will be reimbursed based on reasonable and customary fees posted by provincial dental associations in the calendar year prior to the year of service. You may wish to advise your dentist of these changes.
Eligible members may choose from the following:
Basic Dental Plan:
Reimburses an employee for 66.7% of eligible expenses for himself/herself and eligible dependents, to a maximum of $1000 per calendar year, per family member.
- Eligible expenses include examinations at least nine full months apart and for children under age 16, six full months apart, cleaning and scaling, x-rays as required, fillings, extractions, periodontics, endodontics and surgical procedures. OR:
Enhanced Dental Plan:
Reimburses an employee for 75% of eligible expenses for himself/herself and eligible dependents, and 50% reimbursement of expenses for major restorative for (crowns, bridges, dentures) services to a maximum of $1500 per calendar year.

As of January 1, 2002 Executive Committee approved the following changes to
the
Diocese of Huron Benefit Plan:
- No semi-private coverage
- $9.00 cap on prescription dispensing fees
- Increased the drug co-pay to 15%
- Co-pay, as illustrated in the table below, for Basic and Enhanced Benefits

c) General Synod Pension Plan - General Synod Canon VIII
- A career-average defined benefit plan.
- Employee contributes 4.4% of salary for pension purposes.
- Employer contributes 8.3% of salary for pension purposes.
- Provides a pension for the employee, or surviving spouse.
- "Salary for pension purposes" is stipend plus 50% or cash house allowance, whichever is greater.
d) Huron Pension Plan - Canon 33
A defined benefit plan:
- provides a pension to clergy at age 65 or 40 years of service, or to the surviving spouse.
Benefit
- $160.00 per year for every year of service.
Early Retirement:
- an unreduced pension after the completion of 37 years of contributory membership in the Plan;
- On early retirement 3% for each of the first 5 years by which retirement precedes the member’s normal retirement date or the date on which the member would have completed thirty-seven years of contributory membership.
Cost:
- diocese pays 2% of Basis of Apportionment into the fund annually.
- employee pays a minimum of $20 annually if between 20-30 years of age on joining the plan.
- scale is graded at each age level to ensure that each employee contributes $800 by retirement
e) Group Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment - Maritime Life
- 2½ times annual earnings, minus $10,000 rounded to the next higher $1,000 with a minimum of $90,000 and to a maximum of $190,000. The $10,000 is covered by the General Synod Self Insured Death Benefit.
- Salary for General Synod Pension purposes is stipend plus 50% or cash house allowance, whichever is greater.
- Employee pays full premium.
- Insurance benefit terminates at retirement or age 65, replaced by a $4,000 Self Insured Death Benefit from General Synod.
Dependent Life Insurance
- $4,000 life insurance on an employee's spouse and $2,000 on each eligible dependent child during active service.
- A dependent means a spouse under 70 or unmarried child 21 (25, if regularly attending school) who is solely dependent upon the employee for support. Dependents must be at least 24 hours old to be eligible for dependent life insurance.
A spouse means a person who is legally married to the insured employee; or a person not legally married to the insured employee and resides with the employee in a conjugal relationship and has been living with the employee for a period of at least 1 year.
Child means a person, who is a natural or legally adopted child; or a step-child or other child, who is dependent upon the employee for support and lives with the employee in a regular parent child relationship
- Employee pays full premium.
- General Synod Death Benefit of $2,000 for spousal insurance upon member’s retirement or age 65 whichever is earlier.
Optional Life Insurance
- Requires evidence of insurability.
- Can insure life of self and/or spouse in $10,000 increments up to $100,000.
- Can take coverage into retirement and is portable.
- Employee pays full premium.

f) Short Term Disability Plan - Diocese of Huron
Paid by salary source
- First 4 weeks 100%
- Weeks 5 and 6, 85% during EI waiting period
- Top up EI Benefits to 85% to week 17 (119 days)
g) Long Term Disability Plan - General Synod for those disabled January 1, 2005 or after
Taxable Benefit
- 60% of predisability earnings
- Maximum monthly benefit from all sources is 85% of your salary.
- Waiting period: 119 days
- Benefit duration: to age 65
- First two years "own occupation" and after that "any occupation".
- Employers will make contributions to the LTD plan at a rate of 2.2%. Employees will make after tax contributions to the old LTD plan of 0.4% of pensionable salary and 0% to the new LTD plan.

h) Major Medical Health Insurance
Eligible members may choose from:
Basic Major Medical (include with basic dental)
Eligible expenses include:
- Prescription drugs which must be dispensed by a licensed pharmacist, with a 15% co-pay per prescription.
- Out of province/country: coverage limited to 30 days while traveling or on vacation
- In-home private nursing services to a lifetime maximum of $10,000
- Paramedical services at $500 per calendar year per practitioner, and
$300 for Massage Therapy (RMT required)
- Expenses for eye examinations incurred November 1, 2004 and later to a maximum of $50 every 24 months per plan member insured.
- 15 visit deductible per calendar year for chiropractic expenses incurred January 1, 2005 or later
Employer pays 92.5% and Employee pays 6.5%
OR:
Enhanced Major Medical: (include with enhanced dental)
Eligible expenses include:
- As with basic major medical, plus
- Vision care to a maximum of $150 per every 24 month period
Employer/employee share premium
i) Outfit Grant - Canon 25
The ordination outfit grant is to help establish newly-ordained persons in their ministries in the Diocese of Huron and is granted to all persons ordained to full-time stipendiary ministry in the Diocese. The amount is $1000.
In the case of persons ordained to contractual or part-time ministries, or who have previously been ordained in other denominations, the Bishop may grant the ordination outfit grant or a portion thereof.
j) Retiring Benefit - Canon 34
Provides licensed clergy of the Diocese and lay employees of the Synod a lump sum payment or at his/her option, in equal installments over five years upon application a retiring gift.
Benefit:
- a lump sum at the rate of $108 per month of service in the Diocese up to the date of retirement or to age 65, whichever occurs first.
Note:
- if employee dies in active service, Retiring Benefit is paid to survivor as well as the Group Life Insurance benefit is paid to the named beneficiary.
Cost:
- the Diocese contributes to the fund annually. Annual contribution is based on Parish Apportionment Receipts and is outlined in Canon 34
k) Retirement Moving Expense Benefit
After the accumulation of 20 years service with the Anglican Church, the Diocese of Huron shall bear the actual cost of loading, unloading and transporting furniture and effects up to a maximum of 15,000 pounds for the first move of a clergy-person upon retirement or within 3 years of retirement to any point within the Diocese, or for any distance up to three hundred kilometres, at the prevailing rate within the Diocese, if he/she should wish to go beyond Diocesan boundaries.
There shall also be an allowance at the rate of $5.00 per cwt. for additional services, including packing and unpacking.
The Diocese shall pay the cost of moving the furniture and household effects of any clergy-person placed on disability pension as determined and set for in the Plan, but without limitation as to years of service. When a clergy-person of the Diocese dies in active service in a parish, the moving expenses of the spouse from the rectory to any part of the Diocese of Huron will be paid by the Diocese according to the Plan.
