1. Services of Confirmation, whether from the Book of Alternative Services or the Book of Common Prayer, will be celebrated in the context of the Eucharist. When using the latter book, the B.A.S. model should be used.
2. If people are being presented for Baptism or to reaffirm baptismal vows, or to be received in the Anglican Church, the Bishop should be informed.
3. Dedications, e.g. Alter linen, etc., may be incorporated into the service if desired. Again, please inform the bishop beforehand. As well, be careful not to include so much that the primary purpose of the service is obscured.
4. Children who are part of a First Communion process should not be associated with the Confirmation visitation. This continues to be a parish matter over which the Rector presides.
5. Organization of the service:
- candidates may kneel before the Bishop, within easy reach; or
- candidates may stand before the Bishop together, in a semi-circle
- sponsors may stand behind the candidates, and
- sponsors may take part verbally in the Presentation
- Name tags may be used, or the Rector may "introduce" each candidate.
- Certificates may be presented:
a) by the Rector, immediately following Confirmation
b) by the Bishop and Rector before the final hymn.
6. Photographs:
a) A group photograph may be arranged immediately prior to the service.
b) If the photograph session follows the service:
i) The Bishop will remain in the Sanctuary or Chancel during the singing of the final hymn.
ii) The confirmands and their families should remain in the church.
iii) The rest of the congregation should be dismissed and encouraged to attend the reception. In some congregations, Grace should be said before the dismissal.
iv) Someone must be designated to organize the photography session. Whatever is decided, instructions should be placed in the bulletin.
Hopefully, this will expedite the taking of photographs; it will allow the congregation to move to the reception and it will enable the Bishops to attend the reception more quickly.
7. There is no need to have a person designated as Chaplain.
