(Canon 17)
The authorized prayer books for use in the Diocese of Huron are those that have been approved by resolution of General Synod from time to time. They are currently:
The Book of Common Prayer (1962) and The Book of Alternative Services (1985)
The Rector and Parish Council, aided hopefully by a Worship Committee, will come to local agreement about the ratio of use between these two books, but by action of Diocesan Synod 1988, any previously used booklets or other privately-printed worship forms are to be discarded.
If there is a need to print special services using texts from either book, permission is to be received from the Anglican Book Centre, who holds the Copyright. Such re-printings, however, are to be discouraged in order to allow worshippers to become familiar with the use of the books themselves.
Any form of dedication of gifts and memorials not provided for in the above books may be derived from the Canadian Book of Occasional Offices or its counterpart in the Episcopal Church of U.S.A. Such special services should be cleared in advance with the Bishop if he is to officiate.
The Induction Service is not provided for in the Book of Alternative Services, and one has been prepared by the Diocesan Doctrine and Worship Committee, and this is the form to be used in the Diocese of Huron.
It is understood that the above rules apply to the regular public offices conducted in the parish. In small study and prayer groups, other prayer forms may be developed under the guidance of the rector, and it is to be hoped that extemporaneous prayers and worship might become part of Anglican personal devotion.
