SUITABLE PRAYERS
Opening Prayer
O Lord, it is so strange that we go on living our everyday lives so carelessly, stumbling: dully we plod our common-place paths and yet we forget that we walk every day, every hour in the Presence of God.
A Prayer for Indwelling
Heavenly Father, help me to grow old gracefully, and beautifully and creatively, Give me the strength and will to bring forth fruit even to old age, May I know you in deathless life, and be unafraid of getting old. I greet it with a song.
Thanksgiving
Accept, O lord, our thanks and praise for all you have done for us. We thank you for the splendour of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. We thanks you for the blessing of family and friends and for the loving care which surrounds us on every side. But above all we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. Please grant us the gift of your Spirit so that through Jesus we may give thanks to you in all things.
A Petition
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my Heart Naught be all else to me save that thou art; Be thou my best thought in the day and night
Waiting or sleeping they presence my light. High King of Heaven, when battle is done, Grant heaven’s joys to me O Bright Heaven’s son; Christ of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
For the Sick and unwell
1. Heavenly Father, Giver of Health and Healing: Grant to your servants such a sense of your Presence that they may have perfect trust in You. In all their sufferings may they cast their cares upon you, so that enfolded in your love and power, they may receive from you health and salvation, according to
your gracious will. Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2. Heavenly Father, we pray that you will be in every sore heart, every stricken home, beside every bed of pain, giving to all the Blessings of your Peace. Through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

For those departed from this life
Heavenly Father, as we sit here today, we see before us the faces, the smiles of dear ones, family members, relatives and friends who have joined your heavenly company. We think of their kindnesses, their joy in being your followers. Now that they are with you in Heaven, please continue to uphold them in your Holy Spirit and surround them with the comfort of your
loving arms.
For Family and Friends
Heavenly Father, our families and friends, some are near at hand, and some are far away geographically—but near to our hearts, nevertheless. We pray that you will guide them in this troublous life, giving them happiness as often as possible but being their sustainer in difficult times: May those who have accepted you as their Lord and deliverer-be constant in their walk with you: and for those who have not yet accepted you in this way, come to know you and be glad.
For the Poor and Neglected
Heavenly Father, most merciful God. We remember before you the homeless, the destitute, the ignored, the lonely and the depressed, and all who have none to care for them. We pray that You will heal those who are broken in body of spirit, and turn their sorrow into joy. Please grant this for the love of Jesus Christ who for our sake became poor.
A Prayer for Tolerance
We pray, O Lord, that all peoples may look upon others who do not share their same beliefs, colour, status or race, with compassion and tolerance. All this in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.
For your Church
We pray, O lord, for the people of your Church. Remember our own congregation at the Church of the Ascension, its Ministers, Michael, Janet and Elizabeth and pray that all the people may show forth your glory in all that they do. All this in the name of Jesus Christ.
In Closing, O Lord,
Please support us all the day long of this troublous life, until the shades lengthen and the evening comes, The busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over and our work done. Then, Lord, in thy mercy, grant us safe lodging, a holy rest and peace at the last. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
