Membership
Two Clerical or lay members elected by the Diocesan Council from among its members
for terms of three years;
Five additional persons elected by Synod, who need not be Lay Representatives or
Clergy. Elected members of the Committee whose terms of office have expired shall be
eligible for re-election; The Principal and the Librarian of Huron College.

Terms of Reference


The Archives will maintain all Parish registers submitted to it.
The purpose of the committee shall be:


1. To establish policies for a continuing program for the management of current records
of the Synod, its officers, committees and Parishes in order to provide for the
archival retention of those items of enduring research and historical value;

2. To unify and develop the archival activities of the Anglican Church in the Diocese of Huron;

3. To oversee the archival needs, both physical and operational, of the Diocese of Huron and to recommend such measures as may be deemed advisable to advance
the preservation and use of the records of enduring value;

4. To prepare an annual budget for the Committee’s needs which shall be submitted in
April to the Budget Sub-Committee of the Administration and Finance Committee for consideration for inclusion in the Diocesan budget.

5. There shall be an Archivist of the Diocese of Huron who shall be appointed by the Bishop of Huron following consultation with the Committee.

6. The Archivist shall advise the Committee on policies regarding access to archival records, accession of records, and shall be responsible for implementing such policies as are established by the Committee.
In addition the Committee will fulfill these responsibilities:

7. A secretary will be elected from the committee members annually in June for a term of one year. Minutes will be taken at each meeting and distributed within two weeks following the meeting.

8. The Secretary will ensure that a copy of the minutes is provided to the Bishop and a copy placed in the Archives. Copies are provided to the Archivist or Archival Assistant for distribution to members. The Archivist will also provide travel vouchers and copies of the Chairperson’s agenda.

9. The Committee shall each year in December review its operational policy within the terms of reference given to it by the Bishop.

10. The Committee shall report annually to Synod through a written report in the Synod Journal.

11. The Committee will meet up to a minimum of 4 times annually, generally in March, June, October and December and/or at the call of the chair.

12. The committee may make recommendations to the Bishop of possible chairperson. The Bishop shall appoint a chair.
