- Blessing of Oils: This year there will be three locations for the Blessing of Oils on Maundy Thursday, March 20 (at varying times). Please note the specific information as it relates to each location:
a) All Saints’ Windsor The service will be at 12:00 noon and will be a service of Blessing of Oils and Renewal of Clergy Vows.
Celebrant: Bishop Jack Peck; Homilist: The Rev. Deacon Liz Chaplin:
Who should attend: Clergy and lay representatives, especially those who offer particular support for the church's ministry of reconciliation, healing and pastoral care, those who administer the reserved sacrament, or those wishing to receive the ministry of healing through the laying on of hands and anointing with oil. The Ministry of Healing: The St. Luke's Group of All Saints’ will join us for this service and lunch. This parish ministry serves people who may need special assistance in attending services of worship (and thereby often cannot attend regular services of worship), and those who desire to receive the ministry of healing. The ministry of healing through the laying on of hands and anointing of oil will be offered at this service for those who desire, in conjunction with the time of communion, to be administered at the side chapel. We encourage you to invite people from your parish to attend and participate that may be interested and who may benefit. Once again, RSVP for lunch would be helpful. Special arrangements will be made to accommodate parking for this service at the Casino Parking Garage across the street from All Saints' on the north east corner of McDougall and University Ave. If need be passengers can be dropped off at the church on University Ave. by the Civic Square Park before proceeding to the parking garage. There is additional parking around the church and just to the south of Windsor City Hall and across from the arena on McDougall but space is sometimes at a premium during the weekday in these locations. For those that require it, All Saints' Church is fully wheel chair accessible and access to the church is on a level grade from two entrances adjacent to the Parish Hall. There is a lavatory that is accessible as well adjacent to the sanctuary.
If you are unable to attend the service and wish to have Oils set aside for your church please contact our Rector, Canon Kim Van Allen, and this will be accommodated. (kim.vanallen@sympatico.ca).
Preparation for the Blessing of Oils: You may bring either clean empty vessels that we will fill or vessels that are already filled with oil stock (prefer the latter especially if you want a significant quantity of oil); marked with the name of the parish and marked for either chrism (baptism) or unction (healing.) As you arrive in the sanctuary, please place the vessels on the clearly marked tables for each purpose, either chrism or unction, at the chancel crossing in front of the altar. You may retrieve your own vessels after the service. Empty vessels will be filled and retrieved after the service.
Lunch is provided for those who can stay. (A donation will be requested) Please RSVP by either e-mail or phone to All Saints so that we have sufficient food! E-mail: allsaints1@bellnet.ca; PH: 519-253-8001.
b) The Cathedral Church of Saint Paul, 12:15 pm celebrant: Bishop Bruce Howe, Homilist: The Rev’d Marian Haggerty. Please bring clean empty vessels, marked with the name of the parish and give them to the Cathedral staff prior to the service. If you wish to bring your own supply of oil that should also be marked and given to the Cathedral Staff prior to the service. The vessels will be filled and returned following the service
c) Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo, celebrant Bishop Bob Bennett: (33 Allen St., Waterloo Ph. 743-8772). Homilist: The Ven. Dr. James Sutton. The service will be at 12:15 p.m. and will be a service of Blessing of Oils and Renewal of Vows. Please bring clean empty vessels, marked with the name of the parish and for chrism or unction and give them to a server prior to the service.
